PORTFOLIO
Custom Furniture Maker in Townsville, North Queensland
My name’s Robin Lewis, I’m a furniture maker in Townsville, building custom pieces to suit your home with your design. My portfolio includes dining tables, steam-bent chairs, display cabinets, coffee and side tables, stools, keepsake boxes and storage furniture, made from timbers such as teak, silky oak, Victorian ash and African mahogany. Wherever I can, I use timber I collect and dry from around Townsville, so each piece is truly one of a kind. Every project starts with a conversation about what you need, followed by a design you approve before I build. Have a look at some recent work below, then get in touch to talk about your next piece.
This was a design I came up with for my own family, which was growing at the time. I had just caught the steam bending bug and I wanted to incorporate it into the table. It uses victorian ash and moreton bay ash and each half is a mirrored copy of the other side, with the colours inverted. It uses 4 legs as this is a 4 seater, which creates a defined space for people to sit and relax.
This unique chair was built using a technique known as steam bending. the timber is bent then locked in place to create a flexible but strong design. This was where I first got a taste of steam bending and I was immediately hooked. The curves provide a pleasing shape but also functionality as the frame can flex to accommodate an uneven floor. It’s made from victorian ash, with moreton bay inlays, with a danish oil finish.
